Beech Mountain is one of the better known NC Mountain Golf Resorts in the western part of the state. Known for being the highest mountain town located east of the Mississippi River, Beech Mountain’s amazing elevation of 5,506 feet above sea level creates a fantastic environment and atmosphere. The Beech Mountain Weather temperatures usually rest in the high 70’s during the hottest months of golf season, creating the idyll conditions for golf. In addition to the golf at Beech Mountain Club, there are some other great courses nearby in the High Country. While a handful are exclusive, members only type clubs, there are a handful of great clubs to play that are open to non-members as well.
Sugar Mountain Golf Course – Banner Elk
Sugar Mountain NC is just a short drive away from Beech Mountain Resort and offers many of the same amenities; however the elevation is not as high and the views quite as great. The executive golf course is located below the slope runs and was designed by a longtime project manager that worked for Robert Trent Jones, Sr. The course features 9-par threes, 8 par fours, and 1-par five.
Mountain Glen Golf Course – Newland
Mountain Glen is located just outside of Newland off of Hwy 194. It opened more than 40 years ago, and has long been a local favorite. Fees are affordable, greens are well maintained and there is a large club house for special events. The course features 6,723 yards from the longest tees; it is a par 72 course. Designed by George W. Cobb, this course has long been an unpretentious family favorite.
Willow Valley Golf Course
Willow Valley might be the smallest course in the High Country, but it is a favorite among those that just want to get in a short game before dinner. Willow Valley is located in between Boone and Banner Elk, in a resort setting right off of Highway 105. It is a nine hole course that is often played twice for 18 holes. It was designed by Tom Jackson.
Boone Golf Course
With only a 45 minute drive, Boone Golf Course is located the furthest away from Beech Mountain Vacation Rentals. It is a stunning Blue Ridge Mtn course that was designed by legendary designer Ellis Maples.
